Welcome . . .

I have always been interested in art but had really done nothing about it since leaving school. After a visit to a Thameside Art Group exhibition about 25 years ago I decided go along to one of their weekly meetings to see if I thought I would fit in. From that first evening I was made to feel welcome no matter what level my work was. I joined the group there and then as a complete novice and have enjoyed the company and camaraderie of the other members ever since. I started originally to play about with water colours (which is probably the most difficult of the mediums available). I quickly moved on to line and wash and later to pastels, more recently I have started working in acrylics as well. Over the years I have learnt a lot from the demonstrators who come to the group and from the workshops which are held from time to time (sometimes just a members group at other times with professional artists tutoring us). I have gone on a few painting holidays and had some private tuition as well which has been marvellous. But I have probably learnt most from my mistakes, not always happy ones, and from my fellow members who are always quick to offer advice or praise.
